Dex Improves High Altitude Exercise Capacity
Dexamathasone, a drug used to treat altitude-related symptoms, has been shown by Swiss researchers to improve exercise capacity at high altitude. Commonly known by climbers as "dex," the drug is already known to help prevent high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) as well as acute mountain sickness (AMS). Results of the study were published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. The study concluded that taking dexamathasone improved oxygen uptake kinetics and decreased the anaerobic threshold.
