Memorial Service for Climbers
A public memorial service will be held in this weekend for three climbers—Jonny Copp, Micah Dash, and Wade Johnson— who this past June were killed by an avalanche on a remote peak in China. As I noted earlier in a few blog posts, alpinists Micah Dash and Jonny Copp, both of Boulder, CO, and photographer Wade Johnson, who works for Sender Films, an adventure film company also based in Boulder, went missing during an attempt to climb 22,368-foot E Gongga, or Mount Edgar, on the Minya Konka massif, which is located in the Western Sichuan Province. Eventually, rescuers found the bodies of Jonny Copp and Wade Johnson in avalanche debris in between their base camp and advanced base camp, but, after a week of searching, they were unable to locate the body of Micah Dash.
A fund has been established in memory of the three climbers, and a public memorial service will be held in Boulder, CO, on Saturday, July 11th, starting at 1 P.M at the Boulder Theater. More details about the fund and service can be found here. —Sam Moulton
