On June 29, NASA and the Japanese trade ministry released the Global Digital Elevation Map. The new map is comprised of 1.3 million satellite images and covers 99 percent of the earth's terrain. It is the most complete map of the earth's surface--yes, even better than Google Earth. The map will available for free from Aster's website (though consider waiting to get your version, downloads are slow due to high traffic). For the full story, visit Wend's blog or the BBC.
