Tour Divide Race: Day 12, Unidentified Flying Rider
Every Christmas Eve I track Santa's sleigh for my son Sam. Ask him and he'll tell you, well, Dad's pretty good at it. This solstice I've found an elite mystery racer who has left Banff for an ITT--Individual Time Trial--behind the Tour Divide field. The mystery rider has begun passing straggling Tour Dividers on the trail, so expect to have this verified by call-ins soon. The mud in Montana has slowed him, but I can assure you he's pinning for Matthew Lee's 2006 Banff-to-Antelope Wells record (17 days and 22 hours), not out for the exercise and scenery. You don't have to be a part of the Tour Divide race; the DIY spirit is what drives Divide racing and a record-breaking ITT goes on the books. NOTE: In 2007, Matthew Lee rode a "prologue" from Banff to the border just in time to start the 2007 Great Divide Race, so, in essence, his combined effort of Canadian prologue and GDR equals a record-setting ITT. --Jon Billman

Pete Basinger was mentioned in a call in today so I'm guessing that it must be him
