See the Best Map of the World--Ever
An old clunker of a satellite has managed to produce the most detailed topographic map of the world in the world (from above the world). The Terra satellite, using the joint US/Japanese ASTER instrument, stitched the map from over one million images and covers 99% of the globe. The last map that was even close to this covered only 80% of the planet. The data is free and available to all right here.
