Krishna Pattabhi Jois, a yoga guru credited in part with bringing yoga to the West, died today in India at age 93. Jois, a practitioner of the challenging Ashtanga yoga, popularized his teachings with American and European celebrities such as Sting and Madonna. Much of the yoga practiced in the West today descends from his techniques and poses. He is survived by his yoga mat, Hanuman.
