Mike Rowe's Got Some Obsessive Groupies

How's your speaking voice? Anyone game for posting a video response to the clip below?

The  backstory: I wrote a profile of "Dirty Jobs" host Mike Rowe for our May issue. When it hit newsstands last week, forums at the Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" site and Rowe's own website started lighting up with people trying to find the story online. But it wasn't there yet because, you know, we like to sell a few issues before we post content for free. So this lady decided to help her fellow fans by reading the story for a YouTube video. I'll pass it on without comment.

So, whatcha got? Record your own dramatic reading, send us the link, and we'll post the best ones.

Oh, and, in response to all the requests, we've posted the full feature.

—John Bradley

UPDATE: It looks like her reading was broken up into several short segments. You can find them all here.

Hi Outside! We see you watching us watching you watching us:

And I did buy a newsstand copy. Thanks for the great article and pix!

For the record, many of Mike's fans understand just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Please don't lump all of the supporters of "Dirty Jobs", and it's efforts to showcase hard working people and give them some credit where credit is long overdue, as Mike Rowe groupies. It's insulting.

Please don't look at MikeRoweWorks as just a groupie hang out either. MikeRoweWorks has a lot of resources donated by "fans" of both the TV show "Dirty Jobs" and Mike Rowe. These "fans" went one step further and are volunteering to help bring pride back to how we look upon skilled trades. A groupie says..."Oh Mike you're so HOT!". A "fan" says..."Hey, I know of an apprenticeship opening soon for carpenters - here's the link".

There's a difference.

Do like "Outside" magazine. Will buy a copy of the May issue when it comes out around here.

Groupies is putting it mildly. Borderline stalkish is a better discription.

The things I have read on both sites take fanaticism to a whole new level.

Scary, just scary.

Hahahahaha! Someone snagged my name because they were too ashamed to use their own! Awesome. Good to know they think I'm in the top 5 "groupies." Funny how they beat me to this blog. They must have gotten it in their google alerts (because all good groupies subscribe to Mike Rowe google alerts). Pity, I must not be such a good fan, since I don't subscribe to ANY Mike related google alerts. I only came here after I was told to by a friend. Some fan I am. *insert epic eyeroll here*

Apparently, being a Mike Rowe fan is serious business. You pseudo-intellectuals from the fan-site (and don't kid yourselves...it IS a fan-site) need to come down from your high horse and realize that you didn't give a sh** about the proletariat OR the infrastructure until your lord and savior, Mike Rowe, mentioned it. Like it or not, you are ALL groupies. Every last one of you.

I think Mike is the hottest!

Nothing like a mancrush!

*laughing* From 0 to Drama in how many seconds? It's better than the DJMB (Dirty Jobs Message Board) OR MRW (mikeroweWORKS).

Oh, and Bikerdaddy, you're not the infamous 'FatBoy Rider'...are you?

If anyone would like to come check out MRW for themselves and form their own opinions as to what kind of site Mike has started, the address is www.mikeroweworks.com.

Was this recorded in a Hospital Room?
Just look at the majority of the posters on the Mike Rowe site and his Discovery site:18-55, female.
They all freely admit it.

The same female attraction that got him where he is, is the same reason there aren't more trades people on his site.
And that is too bad.

"Nobody told me there'd be days like these.
Strange days, indeed."

Time to carry a pad full of pre-signed Orders of Protection

Mike is a good guy and loved by both male and female fans for many different reasons cut the guy and his fans a break.
Sandra

Mike's mandate for hardwork is important and hopefully won't get lost in the midst of this silliness. His site discusses the trades, lists links for resources folks can use to locate and learn about jobs. In times like these having someone - especially in the entertainment business shine the light on people who do the hard, important and sometimes dirty work is appreciated. Says a lot about Mike.

Really good article.

I am appalled at the obsessive fans. When I read about Mike and his mission to help promote skilled labor I went over to his website. I was greeted with obsessive fans, and rude moderators. I said no thank you and left!

I read the article and enjoyed it, but now with the fan reading it on YouTube is really FUBAR! Its an article ladies, get a grip.

And to the person who used the screen name of 2 people from Mike's forum and imply they are stalkers, all I got to say is, you must be his #1 stalker for doing that.

I feel bad for the guy! He is trying to do the right thing but is being weighed down by crazy broads!

John

How can someone be taken seriously when the idea for mikeroweworks originated in a hot tub with a girl reading Studs Terkel to him? The Napa Valley's resort was voted as "Best Hotels for Sex" by a national magazine.

Must have been the case of wine to merit all this.
