24 Hours of Sunlight: New records
So the suffering -- random bruises (the palms of both hands?), a bit of exercise-induced asthma, and mysterious cuts and scrapes -- was totally worth it. I haven't even been off the podium for two hours and I've already ordered my new business cards: "Dina Mishev, World Record Holder Extraordinaire." No, not really ... but only to the ordering of business cards, not to the fact that I do now have a world record, even if I only upped it by 1,500 feet and not the 4,000-some I was hoping for. (So the world record for most vertical feet skied uphill by a woman in 24 hours is now 34,500.)
The Fourth Annual 24 Hours of Sunlight is now history. But mine wasn't the only new world record set. I actually give Eileen Wysocki the award for the most hardcore new record established. Eileen, a resident of Glenwood Springs, established the Guinness record for the most vertical feet snowshoed in a 24-hour period. She did 17 laps for a total of about 25,500 vertical feet up (and, being on showshoes, she had to run down from the top each time too; she didn't have the benefit of enjoying the amazingly fast and fun descent Sunlight had set up for the rando racers).
Of course I'll post more details and photos, but first, I must sleep. And find my puffer. And thank the crews at Sunlight, Real Time Marketing, Granny Gear Productions, and, most importantly, my crew (mom, bro, future sister-in-law, and hardcore friends Chrissy and Kelly), without whom I'd still be working on getting my stuff together to transition from lap 1 to lap 2. Oh, and Dynafit and Goode, two companies that make the most awesome rando race stuff in the world. And McDonald's, even if I did eat only 2 of the 8 double cheeseburgers I had my brother buy me after lap 6 (which was the suckiest of the entire race). I've got lots of nutrition stories actually, but first sleep.
If you want a blow-by-blow from someone intimately familiar with the race and working support crew for a few of the racers, check out Lou Dawson's backcountry skiing site.

Congrats Dina!!! You totally rock! Thanks for the mention too - that was really sweet of you to say. It was nice meeting you and I enjoyed chatting with you, especially during the last couple of laps when the end was in sight. You are an inspiration to all! Way to go!

Congratulations Dina. I'm Eileen Wysocki's sister and it was so nice of you to acknowledge her. She was so impressed with your record and didn't want to take anything away from your wondrous feat. Thanks for supporting her. I live in Chicago and could only cheer her on from afar. Rest up for next year.

Dina: We are in awe . . . . We think that going up a mountain in a chairlift a few times in sunlight is stressful. We salute you, jaws agape, pride in our hearts, and safe in the knowledge that you are on our team!!!
