Jail Time For Dopers, Says Carl Lewis
Suspensions are for high schoolers who get caught smoking in the school bathroom - Olympic dopers should go to jail, says nine-time gold medalist Carl Lewis. The legendary track and field star thinks using banned substances in a sport should be a crime, with government-authorized penalties. Currently only Italy makes doping illegal, according to a story on the BBC. Lewis, who failed three drug tests in the 1980s but was cleared of wrongdoing, got the reputation for being a "tattletale" for speaking out against doping. But with performance-enhancing drug scandals now rocking the sports world from baseball to cycling to track and field, plenty of people are keen to see a return to clean living.
