Taos Freed! Video
It seems that hell did freeze over, at least up at Taos Ski Valley. On March 19, Taos--one of the last North American resorts to forbid snowboarding--finally opened its legendary trails to single-plankers. And it was a fine day for a little slope-side detente, with blazing azure-blue skies, balmy temperatures, and spring snow conditions. Of course, not everyone agreed with the decision. "Too bad that Taos caved to the knuckledraggers, one reader commented on Outside's blog following the big day. "I had enjoyed that there was an area that was boarder-free and I wouldn't have to look
over my shoulders for boarders ready to broadside me from their blind
side."
But an equal number of people seemed to support Taos's move. "It's not what's on your feet, it's what's in your head," a commenter wrote on the mountain's new snowboarding blog, ridetaos.org. "Taos will never be the same, it will be better."
Did peace prevail? Outside's Damon Tabor headed to the mountain on the historic day to find out. Check out the video below.
