Walk Hard: The Daren Wendell Story
On March 8th, Daren Wendell will set off on a quest to walk around the world, a journey that will take the 27-year-old Georgia native seven years to complete and is expected to cover 18,000 miles, 14 countries, and 3 continents. Dubbed the "Earth Expedition" Wendell is hoping to raise awareness about the growing water crisis and AIDs
pandemic in Africa. (All in all, Wendell's trek will take some 36 million steps--talk about the loneliness of the long distance walker.)
"One of my biggest fears is to look back on my life and
wished I would have lived it differently," Wendell says. "I meet so many people who have lost sight of their
dreams and ambitions and settle for something else. I feel like I have
been given this gift of life and I want to live it to the fullest."
To make the journey, Wendell sold all of his possessions and, if
successful, he'll only be the fourth person to have walked the
18,000 miles around the world, as well as the youngest. After leaving from from Amicalola Falls, Georgia, on Saturday, he will head north to
Nova Scotia, then proceed to Europe and across Asia, crossing the Bering
Strait before returning to the U.S. You can check out Wendell's website, which will have daily blog updates and a live GPS tracker, here.
