Marathon World Record Falls!
All hail, Haile.
Haile Gebrselassie has broken the world record in the marathon, distance running's marque event.
The Ethiopian legend ran 2:04:26 today in Germany, at the Berlin Marathon, breaking the 2003 mark set by Kenya's Paul Tergat by 29 seconds.
It's a fitting accomplishment for one of the most impressive runners of our era. It is 34-year-old Gebrselassie's 25th world record, but his first in the marathon, which he called the "king of distance races."
