Himalayan Resort: A Pile of Trash
Gulmarg, India houses not only the world's highest golf course (just under 13,000 feet) and an abundance of snow with no off-piste skiing restrictions, it's also the home to many a make-shift garbage dump thanks to many unconscientious visitors to the Himalayan resort.
The piles of trash are not only nose-pinching, they're infesting the glacier-fed stream which serves as drinking water to over 20,000 people. Authorities are devising a plan to move the trash to dump sites at least 12 miles away, the Agence France-Presse reported Tuesday. --Alicia Carr

The mountain, Apharwat, rises to over 4000m. The golf course is at a much lower 2600m and serves as a ski training course for the Indian Army in winter. The trash likely stems from the heavy military presence in Gulmarg. As usual, the stellar reporting I've come to expect from Outside Magazine!
