DEA Throws Down on Global Steroid Network
Code-named Operation Raw Deal, the Drug Enforcement Agency arrested 124 people and raided 56 sites in the United States over the last four days in an effort to shut down a global steroid ring. Authorities also targeted more than 30 Chinese companies for shipping raw materials to the U.S. that could be used to make steroids and human growth hormone.
No professional athletes have been implicated, but DEA agents seized thousands of emails along with 500 pounds of steroid and 1.4 million units of steroid dosage. "We have the ability to identify individual customers, and that should send chills down the spines of athletes and high school and college students who were buying from these manufacturers," DEA spokesman Rusty Payne told The New York Times. Athletes everywhere trembled, but was that with fear or withdrawal?
