The Clearest Ocean Waters on Earth
French scientists say they have found the clearest and most lifeless of stretch of ocean on the planet.
The water is as clear as the cleanest freshwater lake and is the least productive marine region known to man. The patch of water is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and is “almost violet,” Marc Tedetti, a researcher at the University of the Mediterranean and a member of the expedition that explored the area, told New Scientist.
At its clearest, UV rays are able to penetrate more than 300 feet below the surface of the water. Info from satellite images that track the amount of chlorophyll in the water also suggest that it has ten times less chlorophyll than is found in most ocean waters.
Researches said the patch of water was isolated from ocean currents, which helps explain its clarity and lifelessness.

son put the cabins on, then I fit it out, and put on the rowing system, rudder, and electrical system, and turned it into a perfectly self-contained life-support capsule. I’m certainly not a boat designer, but I was pretty pleased with how I did. I had never done anything remotely like that before. So it was a pretty big learning curve.
